Quick Wrap Up

Art Walk Returns to Downtown

Art Walk Downtown Fort Myers, a showcase of independent and gallery work, will be having its October event this Friday. Claudia Goode, an event organizer, has said there will be independent artists in the street and galleries participating in the event. Art Walk is a big event in the area and the community significance is very pronounced. Art Walk will be happening 6-10 p.m.

Baker Museum Spotlights American Art

The Baker Museum features multiple exhibits this month. These showings include 100 Years of American Abstraction and Someday is Now: The Art of Corita Kent. These exhibits display the museum’s interest in certain art styles, but may or may not reflect the community’s interest. Shannon Gallagher, the museum’s executive assistant, has stated, “Exhibitions can be planned three to five years in advance.” Most of the exhibitions have started this past month and will not end until early next year. Others, however, end in a couple months. The Baker Museum is open Tuesday 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from noon until 4 p.m.

Public Art Impacts City

The City of Fort Myers Public Art Committee dictates what artwork is displayed in public spaces throughout the city of Fort Myers. In the past, they have chosen works that serve as interesting landmarks, but are largely seen as visual “background noise.”
